Mechanic - Nights


The Full Time Mechanic will be working nights primarily at the Highland Park facility to conduct preventative maintenance and repair work for our facility and its equipment. This position is at a competitive rate of $18-$22 per hour with a potential $1 raise after a 6 month performance review.

  • Follow all company as well as MIOSHA safety protocols when conducting repairs or addressing hazards / potentially hazardous situations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Keep inventory of all parts as well as parts used during repairs
  • Follow the preventative maintenance schedule
  • Notify management when parts, materials and/or supplies need to be reordered
  • Act as backup support for the hourly work force if needed
  • Safely and properly use all material handling equipment
  • Address all issues delegated by management or the daily check sheet in a timely and safe matter
  • Address/troubleshoot/repair all breakdowns and notify management if the repair is substantial, cannot be performed in a timely manner, or is impeded by another issue.
  • Walk the lines and inspect them for issues; addressing if needed

DT & HP Nights Only:

  • Turn on compressors at start of shift
  • Start the bottle and main conveyance lines
  • Check motor temps and log
  • Conduct checks on the air compressor gauge and valves
  • Plug in and put away all equipment at shift end

DT & HP Days Only:

  • Check and charge all equipment
  • Check sorter and fill oiler
  • Check compressor for water and drain bi-monthly
  • Drain rooftop/basement as needed
  • Visually inspect box maker for loose fasteners, leaks in the pneumatic system, reducer lubricant, and drop bottle overflow (HP ONLY)

Education and Experience:

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • 1-2 years of related experience

Additional Requirements:

  • Pass a pre-employment background check
  • Pass a drug test at any time during employment.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures outlined in the employee policy manual and any applicable contracts, signed agreements, and work rules.
  • Cooperates with all management and staff of GLWAS.
  • Follows all MLCC rules and regulations, as they apply to the position.
  • Use alcohol in a responsible manner when related to business activities.


Classification: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Reports To: Maintenance Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a warehouse environment. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Requires use of warehouse equipment.

Physical Demands:

  • This is a very active position. The employee must frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, stoop and climb throughout the day.
  • The employee must frequently lift, stack, move and rotate with items, without handles, that weigh up to 50 pounds; push/pull carts with up to 100 pounds of force; able to walk or stand for 10 hours continuously.
  • The employee is regularly required to read and communicate in English. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Expected Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position. Regular schedule is 6:00AM to 2:30PM, Monday- Friday.
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required as schedule demands.


No travel is expected for this position.
